Social Care Advice in the South East

Getting social care right starts with good information and advice - Would you know where to turn for social care support? According to polls taken recently 40% of people don’t. This can result in people not getting the care they need. Areas I offer social care advice are mainly Brighton and the South East but also includes Hastings, Worthing, Littlehampton, Chichester, Eastbourne, Lewis, East Grinstead and further afield as required.

What is the definition of social care?

Social care services provide support to people with Learning Disabilities, Autism, Complex Behavioural Needs, Acquired Brain Injury, Physical Disability, Older Adults, Dementia Care and Complex Health Needs. This support can cover practical activities, personal care and social work, intended to help the people receiving social care to live comfortably.

It is important to be able to have good, clear, open conversations with people to identify strengths and networks, providing a range of preventative services to support independence. To maintain an up-to-date knowledge of services in the local community.

Adult social care encompasses a broad range of activities to help people who are older, living with disability or physical or mental illness to live independently, stay safe and enjoy life to the best of their ability. It can include personal care, such as support for washing, dressing and getting out of bed in the morning, as well as activities to help people stay active and engaged in their communities. Social care includes support in people’s own homes, support in day centres, care provided by care homes and nursing homes, reablement services to help people regain independence, providing equiptment and adaptations for people’s homes, providing information and advice, and providing support for family carers, all within Brighton and the South East, and wider geographical areas. Please contact me for further information using the form at the bottom of this page.

Categories of Care

Social care is often broken down into two broad categories of short-term and long-term care. Short-term care refers to a care package that is time limited with the intention of maximising the independence of the individual using the care service and eliminating their need for ongoing support. Long-term care is provided on an ongoing basis and range from services like nursing care to community support. Both long and short-term care would be arranged by a local authority and could be described as "formal" care.

Who is Entitled to Care?

You're entitled to social care if you're over 18 in England, or any age in Wales, you ordinarily reside in the local authority's area and you meet the eligibility criteria
